Manchester
Transformation of this former industrial warehouse on the edge of Manchester city centre has created a distinctive green oasis within a cloistered courtyard setting. The landscape responds to the architectural proposals, which set apartments back from the courtyard wall to form internal walkways reminiscent of monastic cloisters. Drawing inspiration from the hortus conclusus tradition, the design language celebrates sanctuary, rhythm and formality whilst playfully engaging with the building’s industrial heritage through concrete and metal beam detailing. Carefully choreographed planting now defines a series of intimate spaces, fostering shelter, contemplation, and opportunities for social connection. The completed scheme demonstrates how industrial character and contemporary landscape design unite to create meaningful amenity space for residents.
