Alma Estate Regeneration

Enfield

Working on Phases 1, 2A, 2Ai and 2Aii, the regeneration of the 1960s Alma Estate in Ponders End, Enfield aims to reintegrate the site with the surrounding neighbourhood.

Phase 1 looks to re-imagine station Square as a mixed-use public realm with large trees and vegetated areas, as well as residential courtyards to incorporate a range of play opportunities for all ages and abilities. By redefining and reformatting public spaces, we aim to rejuvenate the public space that Alma Estate currently offers, creating a large central play space that is accessible and useable.

Phase 2 focuses on the greening of the estate, as well as redefining streets and roads as vibrant and active spaces. By embedding a home-zone principle into the secondary streets, doorstep play is enabled, enhancing a community sense of place into Alma Estate. Tree species are to be carefully selected, with differing size and scales used to define spaces, create thresholds and produce distinct character areas. These details work to activate the public realm, creating a network of diverse open spaces.
