SCOPE   Design for the landscape portions of a combined scheme at Ashley House, Monck Street and No 1 Chadwick Terrace, Westminster. The commission related to two distinct spaces being a ground floor communal courtyard and a roof top terrace.

CONCEPTUAL RESPONSE   ExA developed a rich conceptual response to the site drawing on the influence of water on various landscape located either with the ‘ravine’ or on the ‘hill tops’. The communal courtyard used a series of angular forms to reference the processes of water cutting into bedrock.  Steps were narrowed to focus the view of feature trees and a play area, which utilised a 1300mm change in level between the sites.

ROOF TERRACE   The roof terrace uses a series of sinuous lines to form communal spaces, which extend from the social to the intimate.  The planting is of a rich and diverse palette with maximum credits being achieved by the Eco Code for Sustainable Homes standard.
