RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT The proposals are for the development of 54 high quality homes and associated infrastructure set within a mature landscape settingon what is currently Stompond Lane sports Ground. A new practice wall together with a new car park are also to be provided for Walton-on-Thames tennis club.
THE APPROACH The landscape proposals aim to integrate the development with its mature landscape setting whilst building on the existing Arcadian character. Internally planting is used to soften the margins of infrastructure, improve legibility and establish defensible space zones, which is reinforced by a simple palette of hard materials that utilises sustainable drainage techniques.
PLANTING DESIGN Different tree varieties with varied colours and flowering seasons are associated with different housing groups to create distinct character areas and to enhance the sites diversity. More formal tree species frame the entrances with low clipped hedgerows providing defensible space to properties. Existing mature trees are to be protected wherever possible with additional native under storey planting being provided to establish wildlife corridors and to reinforce the screening of the site.
