NINE ELMS SKILLS CENTRE

Role         Landscape Architect
Client      Alexandra Palace and Park/ LB Harringey
Status     Phase 1 being developed

THE PROJECT   The Nine Elms Skills Centre on Lambeth College campus, Vauxhall, London, is a purpose built education centre which includes a training hotel and new residential units.

PUBLIC REALM   The landscape proposal developed by ExA looks to improve the quality of the associated public realm, enhancing pedestrian connectivity from Belmore Street through to Thorpach Road as well as to and from the proposed Northern Line Extension and its new stations.

STUDENT SURFACE   At the centre of the development is a large shared surface area with subtly contrasting coloured bands of paving to connect the different building types and to maximise the amount of space for pedestrians.  Within this are several distinct seating spaces and two equipped adventure play areas, as well as extensive planting to create a ‘green’ promenade lined with trees and attractive planting.
