SENSITIVE STREET DESIGN and water management

An urban and industrial site in the town of Petersfield transformed in partnership with Tatehindle Architects to a interesting, usable and safe environment for residents. Environmental sustainability was key to the concept of this design, with rain gardens, permeable paving and recycled materials used to celebrate the water cycle whilst creating a landscape of low embodied carbon.  A rich diversity of riparian plant species were used in the vegetation of the adjacent brook with a highly ‘native’ planting aesthetic to create ecological interest. Places for play and meeting are accent points in this ecologically focussed street design.
