IMPROVING EXETER'S VITAL GREEN ARTERY

This project aimed to improve recreational opportunities and access in an essential green artery of Exeter, in order to divert users from the protected European habitats nearby. Critical to improving accessibility in the valley parks is the creation and maintenance of new footpaths, to offer a variety of walking routes at a variety of distances, for a range of different abilities and types of users. Strategies suggested in the masterplan also looked at signage typologies and proposals, entrance way improvements as well as sustainable provision of facilities such as toilets and cafes. The masterplan was user led: informed by an interactive survey with 110 users in the parks, a User Group which helped progress the masterplan, and a public event in the park, which allowed members of the public to get involved in the visioning process for the parks.
